Doodzonde

Maryam de Vries is an installation artist. Through films and animations she ultimately ended up at video art installations. Her Indonesian mother taught her to also take the perspective of others into account. It is this perspective that she tries to bring back in her work.

Doodzonde (Mortal Sin) is an installation that takes the visitor to a distant future, where humanity is only a vague memory and living nature has regained the upper hand. Old technologies – once the pinnacle of human progress – are now embraced by the green of nature, as witnesses of an era that once was. The installation is made of recycled old media technology and images, analogue media and carriers that are more understandable and accessible to unknowing entities from the future, in contrast to the modern, complex digital devices of today.
