Rym Hayouni & Jasper Riehm (That Weird Plant Guy)

Via haar kunstonderzoek in scenografie verkent Rym Hayouni de aarde/het land als een web van relaties en kruispunten. Common ground maakt deel uit van dit lopende onderzoek. Sinds afgelopen voorjaar is ze op reis om aarde te verzamelen, via boerderijen, tuinen, gemeenschapsruimtes en stedelijke hoekjes en gaatjes.

Terwijl de bodem een substantie is die beweging, migratie en samenwerking belichaamt door de micro-organismen die erin leven en wiens trajecten voortdurend worden uitgevonden, leidde de ontmoeting van rym met de verschillende landen die ze bezocht en het verzamelen van bodemmonsters ertoe dat ze haar relatie tot de aarde en haar positie binnen alle omheiningen, verdelingen, grenzen, bezittelijke en exploiterende krachten over land in kwestie stelde.

Van verzamelen naar ont-verzamelen, nodigt rym ons uit om samen aan te raken, te ruiken, te luisteren en te delen, op zoek naar vormen van het vieren van de aarde die dominante verhalen over land transformeren in een gemeenschappelijke grond.

Through her art research studies in scenography, rym explores the earth/land as a web of relations and intersections. ‘Common ground’ is part of this ongoing research. Since last spring, she has been on a journey to collect soil, through farms, gardens, community-run spaces, and urban nooks and crannies 

While soil is a substance that embodies movement, migration, collaboration through the micro-organisms that inhabit it and whose trajectories are constantly being invented and reinvented, rym’s encounter with the different lands she visited and the collection of soil samples led her to question her relationship to the earth and her position within all the enclosures, divisions, borders, possessive and exploitative forces over land. 

Moving from collecting to de-collecting, rym invites us to touch, smell, listen and share collectively in search of forms of celebrating the earth that transform dominant narratives of land into a common ground.
