ZID Theater
In deze multidisciplinaire locatietheatervoorstelling ZUURSTOF van het Amsterdamse ZID Theater, geregisseerd door Karolina Spaić, staat de onlosmakelijke band tussen mens en natuur centraal. Terwijl de bomen verdwijnen, raakt de wereld langzaam haar adem kwijt. Zonder bomen geen zuurstof, zonder zuurstof geen leven. Waar kunnen we nog ademen?
Deze voorstelling combineert fysiek spel, beeldende elementen en muziek om het publiek onder te dompelen in een verstikkende realiteit waarin elke ademhaling telt. ZUURSTOF is een ode aan veerkracht en een urgente oproep tot actie. Geïnspireerd door onder andere De Laatste Boom van Luke Adam Hawker en Het Boek van Hoop van Jane Goodall, vormt de voorstelling een krachtig moment van collectieve reflectie. In deze tijd vol uitdagingen is de omgang met de natuur niet alleen een ecologische, maar ook een maatschappelijke en politieke kwestie. Alles blijkt met elkaar verbonden.
Een internationale groep performers van ZID Theater maakt via rituelen, persoonlijke verhalen en symboliek de strijd om adem en overleving tastbaar. Zo maken de rode draden in de ruimte het onzichtbare zichtbaar: zuurstof als levensader, maar ook als fragiele verbinding tussen mens en natuur.
ZUURSTOF is het tweede deel van een trilogie, na de succesvolle voorstelling WATER (ExploreZ 2024), en wordt mede geproduceerd door het Europese samenwerkingsproject Trees: Project | Perform Trees.

In the multidisciplinary site-specific performance ZUURSTOF by Amsterdam-based ZID Theater, directed by Karolina Spaić, the inseparable bond between humans and nature takes center stage. As the trees disappear, the world slowly loses its breath. No trees, no oxygen – no oxygen, no life. Where can we still breathe?
This performance blends physical theater, visual imagery, and music to immerse the audience in a suffocating reality where every breath matters. ZUURSTOF is a tribute to resilience and an urgent call to action. Inspired by The Last Tree by Luke Adam Hawker and The Book of Hope by Jane Goodall, the performance creates a powerful moment of collective reflection. In today’s world full of challenges, the issue of nature is not only ecological but also deeply social and political. Everything is interconnected.
An international group of performers from ZID Theater uses rituals, personal stories, and symbolism to make the struggle for air and survival tangible. Red threads woven through the space make the invisible visible: oxygen as a lifeline, but also as a fragile connection between humanity and nature.
ZUURSTOF is the second part of a trilogy, following the successful performance WATER (ExploreZ 2024), and is co-produced by the European collaboration project Trees: Project | Perform Trees.
