Bio Art expositie (NL/EN)

Net als tijdens de eerste twee edities van RE_NATURE is er vanuit de HKU (Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Utrecht) een BioArt expositie. Deze keer presenteren meer dan 10 studenten/alumni hun werk op Ruigoord: van performances tot installaties tot workshops. Ervaar hoe studenten die bezig zijn met kunst en ecologie nadenken over de relatie tussen mens en natuur. 

BioArt is als discipline niet meer weg te denken uit het kunst werkveld. Het is bij uitstek een kunstvorm waarin verschillende kunstdisciplines samenkomen. Het is een kruisbestuiving van kunst, wetenschap, technologie en filosofie waarbij wordt gewerkt aan het actuele en urgente thema van de ecologische crisis. Kunst is door haar beeldende en verhalende karakter heel geschikt om dit soort abstracte inhoud tastbaar te maken.

Met dit als uitgangspunt is HKU in 2020 een BioArt programma gestart met en voor studenten en docenten. Binnen colleges, hands-on sessies en meet-ups verkennen we de complexe materie en artistieke methoden om die voor een breder publiek te maken.

Martijn van Gessel is docent onderzoeker op het gebied van kunst & ecologie bij HKU en is curator van de HKU BioArt bijdrage aan RE_NATURE.

Just like the first two editions of RE_NATURE, HKU (University of the Arts Utrecht) is hosting a BioArt exhibition. This time, more than 10 students/alumni will present their work at Ruigoord: from performances to installations to workshops. Experience how students engaged in arts & ecology reflect on the relationship between the human and nature relationship.

BioArt as a discipline has become an indispensable part of the art field. It is an art form par excellence where different art disciplines come together. It is a cross-pollination of art, science, technology and philosophy that works with the current and urgent theme of the ecological crisis. Due to its visual and narrative nature, art is very suitable for making abstract content like this tangible.

With this as a starting point, HKU started a BioArt program in 20020 with and for students and teachers. Within lectures, hands-on sessions and meet-ups we explore the complex subject matter and artistic methods and how to make this relatable for a broader audience.

Martijn van Gessel is a lecturer and researcher in the field of arts & ecology at HKU and is the curator of the HKU BioArt contribution to RE_NATURE.
