Deep Listening (NL/EN)

Audiovisueel kunstenaar Max van der Wal past deep listening toe in zijn werk om een diepere verbinding te creëren tussen zichzelf en zijn omgeving. Hij laat zien dat je, door je oor af te stemmen, alles als muziek kunt ervaren, een intiemere relatie kunt opbouwen met ‘de ander’ en – zelfs in de stedelijke context – dichter bij de wereld om je heen kunt komen.

In deze deep listening-workshops stemmen we ons af op de natuurlijke wereld om ons heen en onderzoeken we wat we kunnen ontdekken als we met iets meer aandacht luisteren. Het is tijd om ons onder te dompelen in de verstillende compositie van de wildernis.

Max geeft tijdens het RE_NATURE festival elke dag 1 workshop, elk met een andere oefening. Zo vind je, als je meerdere keren langskomt, telkens iets nieuws. De oefeningen worden afgewisseld met groepsgesprekken waarin we onze bevindingen kunnen delen en betekenis geven.

Audiovisueel kunstenaar Max van der Wal voltooide in 2018 de studie Sonologie aan het Conservatorium in Den Haag. In de jaren daarna ontwikkelde hij ook een beeldgeoriënteerde praktijk. In al zijn disciplines staan de concepten stilte, waarneming en aandacht centraal.

Audiovisual artist Max van der Wal uses deep listening in his work to create a deeper connection between himself and his surroundings. He demonstrates that by tuning your ear, you can experience everything as music, build a more intimate relationship with “others,” and—even in the urban context—come closer to the world around you.

In these deep listening workshops we will tune ourselves to the natural world around us, explore what we can find if we listen with a little bit more attention. It is time to immerse ourselves in the silencing composition of the wilderness.

Max will be hosting 1 workshop each day throughout the RE_NATURE Festival, each focusing on a different exercise, so if you want to pass by several times you will find something new. The exercises will alternate with group conversations in which we can share our findings and give meaning.

Audiovisual artist Max van der Wal has finished Sonology at the Conservatory in the Hague in 2018. In the years after that, he has taken up an image-oriented practice as well. Across all the disciplines he works with, concepts of stillness, perception and attention are essential.
