Hans Kalliwoda

Totem of Togetherness is een sculptuur die verder gaat dan de klassieke beeldhouwkunst. Het is een sociaal sculptuur, een uitnodiging voor actie en gesprekken.

In deze theatrale act stelt Kalliwoda ter discussie of we als mensheid wel de goede kant opgaan met hyperindividualisme ten opzichte van zwermintelligentie. Wat kunnen we leren van dat soort intelligentie? Door DNA te verzamelen en tentoon te stellen, laat Kalliwoda in samenwerking met de ‘party-ciperende’ mensen zien dat eenheid en samenwerking wenselijk zijn voor het voortbestaan van de menselijke soort.

Als co-directeur van het TUDelft Urban Ecology and Ecocities Lab initieert hij momenteel een Europees consortium van academici en specialisten om nieuwe methodologieën te implementeren die binnensteden herstructureren tot natuurreservaten voor bestuivers.

Hans Kalliwoda

Hans Kalliwoda (1959) heeft de afgelopen 25 jaar grootschalige interventies uitgevoerd in het publieke en semi-publieke domein met een thematische focus op identiteit, duurzaamheid en ecologie. Zijn werk richt zich op het betrekken van publiek in kunstwerken, installaties en interventies. De projecten zijn, vaak langdurige en baanbrekende projecten. Complex en interdisciplinair van opzet. Zo combineert hij wetenschap, ontwerp, beeldende kunst, ecologie en sociale praktijken en meer. Hij is oprichter van de non-profit Blindpainters Foundation waarmee al 25 jaar onafhankelijke projecten tussen kunst/wetenschap en activisme plaatsvinden. Kalliwoda was PhDc (2013- 2017) aan de Universiteit Leiden. Hij stelde tentoon in galeries, musea en openbare ruimtes wereldwijd. Kalliwoda’s interventies en projecten, zoals BeeTotems for RefuBees en BeeCare Amsterdam, benadrukken zijn betrokkenheid bij duurzaamheid en de maatschappij.

Totem of Togetherness is a sculpture that goes beyond classical sculpture. It is a social sculpture, an invitation to action and conversation.

In this theatrical act, Kalliwoda questions whether we, as humanity, are moving in the right direction with hyperindividualism versus swarm intelligence. What can we learn from that kind of intelligence? By collecting and exhibiting DNA, Kalliwoda, in collaboration with the “party-cipating,” shows that unity and cooperation are desirable for the survival of the human species.

As co-director of the TUDelft Urban Ecology and Ecocities Lab, he is initiating a European consortium of academics and specialists to implement new methodologies that restructure inner cities into nature reserves for pollinators.

Hans Kalliwoda (1959) has spent the past 25 years making large-scale interventions in the public and semi-public space with a thematic focus on identity, sustainability and ecology. His work focuses on engaging audiences in artworks, installations and interventions. The projects are, often long-term and groundbreaking. Complex and interdisciplinary in scope. Thus, he combines science, design, visual art, ecology and social practices and more. He is the founder of the non-profit Blindpainters Foundation through which independent projects between art/science and activism have been taking place for 25 years. Kalliwoda was PhDc (2013- 2017) at Leiden University. He has exhibited in galleries, museums and public spaces worldwide. Kalliwoda’s interventions and projects, such as BeeTotems for RefuBees and BeeCare Amsterdam, highlight his commitment to sustainability and society.
