Iris van Herpen

De video Earthrise maakt deel uit van de lancering van de gelijknamige nieuwe collectie van modeontwerper Iris van Herpen. De titel verwijst naar de historische foto Earth Rise, in 1969 gemaakt vanuit het ruimteschip Apollo, waarop de aarde voor het eerst op één foto werd gevangen. Grenzen, ongelijkheid en uitsluiting zijn niet te zien op die iconische foto: iedereen leeft samen op één grote blauwe bol. En die grote blauwe bol, daar dienen we volgens Iris van Herpen samen voor te zorgen. De aarde is inspiratie voor de nieuwe collectie Earthrise. 

Volgens van Herpen behoort de aarde op dit moment het middelpunt te zijn, omdat de toekomst op het spel staat. Dwarrelend door de atmosfeer, in de mooiste kledingstukken, heeft parachutespringer Domitille Kiger iets weg van een mythische godin. Dansend met het totaalspel van aarde, zee en licht is de video een eerbetoon aan de grootsheid van de groen-blauwe planeet waarop wij leven.

The video Earthrise is part of the launch of the new collection of the same name by fashion designer Iris van Herpen. The title refers to the historic photograph Earth Rise, taken in 1969 from the Apollo spacecraft, in which the Earth was captured in a single photograph for the first time. Borders, inequality, and exclusion cannot be seen in that iconic photograph: everyone lives together on one big blue ball. And that big blue ball, according to Iris van Herpen, is something we need to take care of together. The earth is the inspiration for the new collection Earthrise.

According to Van Herpen, the earth should be the centre of attention at the moment, because the future is at stake. Skydiver Domitille Kiger, floating through the atmosphere in the most beautiful outfits, has something of a mythical goddess about her. The video is a celebration of the grandeur of the green-blue planet on which we live, dancing with the interactions of land, sea, and light.
