Joran van Soest

Deze tentsculptuur is een eerbetoon aan de vrije ruimte van Ruigoord waar individuele vrijheid en gezamenlijke verbinding door kunst, muziek en happenings altijd samenkomen. De kunstenaarsgemeenschap slaat al bijna 50 jaar lang zomers een ‘tentenkamp’ op, in de vorm van het Landjuweel: het grote co-creërende festival dat oorspronkelijk op de omringende zandvlakte werd georganiseerd. Iedere zomer vormde zich hier een tijdelijk dorp en gemeenschap, die opgeluisterd met muziek, ceremonies, kunstprojecten en tijdelijke restaurants uit de grond werd opgebouwd. Landjuweel was de inspiratie voor festivals als Burning Man (USA) en Oerol (NL) en wordt nog steeds ieder jaar door de grote community van Ruigoord georganiseerd.

Van Soest heeft zijn jeugd doorgebracht in Ruigoord. Voor hem is het dorp altijd een symbool van vrijheid geweest waar kunstenaars en muzikanten elkaar ontmoetten en samenwerkten aan festivals en tijdelijke sculpturen. Een welkome inspiratie in de maatschappelijke behoefte aan meer verbinding met en betrokkenheid bij elkaar.

Joran van Soest

Joran van Soest (1994) heeft zijn jeugd doorgebracht in Ruigoord. Na zijn studie aan de Kunstacademie AKV St. Joost in ‘s-Hertogenbosch richt Joran zich op zijn relatie met de omgeving. Van onschuldige oorsprong tot complexe volwassenheid, van fysiek gezelschap tot bedachtzame contemplatie, en van onderdanige macht tot allesoverheersende dominantie – Joran beweegt zich tussen deze uitersten en geeft hier middels zijn werk een eigen definitie aan.

This tent sculpture is a tribute to the free space of Ruigoord where individual freedom and communal connection through art, music and happenings always come together. For nearly 50 years, the artist community has hosted a “tent camp” for several summers, in the form of the Landjuweel: the great co-creative festival originally organized on the surrounding sandy landscape. A temporary village and community formed here each summer, with music, ceremonies, art projects and temporary restaurants built from the ground up. Landjuweel was the inspiration for festivals such as Burning Man (USA) and Oerol (NL) and is still organized every year by Ruigoord’s large community.

Van Soest spent his youth in Ruigoord. For him, the village has always been a symbol of freedom where artists and musicians met and collaborated on festivals and temporary sculptures. A welcome inspiration in society’s need for more connection to and involvement with each other.

Joran van Soest

Joran van Soest (1994) spent his youth in Ruigoord. After studying at the Art Academy AKV St. Joost in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, Joran focused on his relationship with the environment. From innocent origins to complex maturity, from physical companionship to thoughtful contemplation, and from submissive power to overpowering dominance – Joran moves between these extremes and gives them his own definition through his work.
