Kuang-Yi Ku

In het oeuvre van Kuang-Yi Ku (Tapei, 1985) spelen het menselijk lichaam, seksualiteit, (medische) technologie, ecologie en de veranderende relatie tussen de mens en zijn omgeving een belangrijke rol. Als bio-kunstenaar en ontwerper benadert Ku deze onderwerpen vanuit zijn medische achtergrond in de tandheelkunde. 

In Form Follows Fiction is onder andere te zien hoe medicinale tradities uit de traditionele Chinese geneeskunde worden gemoderniseerd. Maar Ku verkent ook de ethische grenzen van hedendaagse medisch-technologische trends. Door middel van speculatief en toekomstgericht onderzoek stelt hij actuele kwesties aan de kaak en geeft hij vorm aan alternatieve toekomstscenario’s.

The work of Kuang-Yi Ku (Tapei, 1985) focuses on the human body, sexuality, technology, ecology, and the changing relationship between mankind and its environment. As a bio-artist and designer, Ku approaches these subjects from his medical background in dentistry.

Form Follows Fiction shows how Chinese medicinal traditions are being modernized. But Ku also explores the ethical boundaries of contemporary medical-technological trends. Through speculative and future-oriented research, he exposes current issues and gives shape to alternative future scenarios.
