Pauline Berger

Pauline Berger is zowel kunstenaar als herder. Elke zomer zorgt ze voor kuddes koeien en kalveren op de Zwitserse Alpenweiden. Die dualiteit komt terug in haar werk, waar ze de verbinding zoekt tussen stad en platteland, de menselijke en niet-menselijke wereld en planten en dieren.

Berger nodigt je uit om op de loopband te wandelen, waarmee het audio- en videowerk start. Het werk ontvouwt zich als multisensorisch dagboek waarmee je in de wereld van de kunstenaar stapt, wandelend door de bergen. Intussen luister je naar de gedachten en overpeinzingen van de kunstenaar over de kudde, de wandeling en de relatie tussen mens en natuur. 

De film is in realtime opgenomen. Elke bezoeker ervaart een eigen kunstwerk, doordat audio en video niet synchroon worden afgespeeld.

Pauline Berger is both an artist and a shepherd. Every summer she looks after herds of cows and calves on the Swiss Alpine pastures. This duality is reflected in her work, where she seeks the connection between city and countryside, the human and non-human worlds, and plants and animals.

Berger invites you to walk on the treadmill, which initiates the audio and video. The work unfolds as a multisensory diary that takes you into the world of the artist while walking through the mountains. Meanwhile, you listen to the artist’s thoughts and reflections on the herd, the walk, and the relationship between mankind and nature.

The film was shot in real time and lasts as long as the tour of the animals. Each visitor experiences their own work of art, as the audio and video are not synchronized.
