Voedselpark Amsterdam & Het Zonnebloemprotest
Catherina en Iris komen namens het kustvolk van de North Sea Bioregion – de Frisii – met een ceremoniële bijdrage die protest, poëzie en regeneratie verbindt. Samen met Voedselpark Amsterdam dragen wij het Zonnebloemprotest uit: een levende daad van vreedzaam verzet, dankbaarheid en herverbinding met het natuurlijke ritme van Moeder Aarde. Behoud van de Lutkemeerpolder.
In deze ceremonie eren we de zonnebloem als symbool van licht, veerkracht en regeneratie. We openen in de geest van de Vier Windrichtingen en het water, landen samen in stilte en adem. Daarna planten we zonnebloemzaden in een cirkel, dragen bloemen of vormen een levend beeld van verbondenheid. In de waterceremonie danken we het water in ons lichaam en landschap, ook in en rond Amsterdam.
We delen een getuigenis over de North Sea Bioregion als levend lichaam van gemeenschappen, rivieren en voorouderlijnen. In een slotritueel spreken we onze intenties uit – met natuurlijke inkt, vingerafdruk of symbool – en verbinden ons aan een regeneratieve praktijk van zorg en compassie.
Deze ceremonie is zacht én radicaal. Ze verbindt activisme, kunst en spiritualiteit vanuit een inheemse Europese traditie van zorg voor land, water en gemeenschap.
Catherina Giskes is ceremoniebegeleider nauw verbonden met de Frisii en de North Sea Bioregion. Ze werkt op het snijvlak van voorouderlijke wijsheid, ecologie en ritueel. Iris Poels is de organisator van Voedselpark Amsterdam en actief in het burgerlijke en creatieve verzet tegen de vernietiging van de Lutkemeerpolder. Samen geven zij vorm aan het Zonnebloemprotest: een poëtisch en verbindend protest in Amsterdam waarin kunst, zorg voor de aarde en gemeenschap samenkomen. Hun werk nodigt uit tot herverbinding met land, water en elkaar met wortels in zowel stad als kust.

This sunflower ceremony begins by welcoming the spirits of Earth, Water, and the Four Directions. We ground ourselves through breath and sound, then plant sunflower seeds together in a symbolic circle. These flowers stand for light, resilience, and rebirth.
We honor Water — the source of all life — with offerings and words of care. We share a testimony about the North Sea Bioregion as a living body of rivers, communities, and ancestral memory, and we invite participants to speak their own intention: a commitment to compassion in action.
Soft yet radical, this ritual brings together art, ecology, and spirituality in service of a more connected world.
Catherina Giskes is a ceremony guide closely connected with the Frisii and the North Sea Bioregion. She works at the intersection of ancestral wisdom, ecology, and ritual. Iris Poels is the organizer of Voedselpark Amsterdam and an active participant in the civic and creative resistance against the destruction of the Lutkemeerpolder. Together they shape the Sunflower Protest: a poetic and connecting protest in Amsterdam where art, care for the earth, and community come together. Their work invites reconnection with land, water, and each other, with roots in both city and coast.
