De Knuffelboom

Marit van der Hulst sees magic in our everyday surroundings and the natural world around us. In her work she tries to show a piece of that magic. In her own way she bridges the distance that some people experience towards nature. With playful and colorful work she addresses serious problems like this. 

Personal objects have a lot of value to people, while the natural world is taken for granted. De Knuffelboom (The Cuddly Tree) works as a reflection of how we should treat nature: as you would treat your beloved cuddly toy. The feeling that Marit experiences with both trees and cuddly toys is similar. The feeling of protection, security and a sense of being at home.

De Knuffelboom tries to convey these feelings. The work is completely realized with discarded textiles, cuddly toys and sheep wool.
