Suyna Qamani – Sound Harvesters in the Andes (EN)

Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti

Suyna Qamani – Sound Harversters in The Andes is a lecture on the research about heritage via sound memory. Sound in the Andes is the binder of worlds and the cultivation of spiritual, cultural and ecological thinking.

By visiting her ancestral territories, Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti has been following an intuitive learning with various wisdom keepers. Fascinated by these worldviews and cosmo-visions she has focused on the role sound plays in ritual, ceremony and daily lives of her indigenous ancestors. These research has led her to mind-bending experiences, where she learned that sound is not just a commodity or it even enters in the category of “music” as we know it in the western world. Sound is the carrier of knowledge, embodiment and it is the bridge maker between various ecologies, environment, human and non-human beings. By following certain specific protocols, these practices catapult you to deep listening. Where humbleness, temporality, co-existence, co-dependance and the cyclical play a central role. In this lecture, Ibelisse will be sharing about various Andean concepts, on how space-time is experienced from a human perspective, on how the yearly cycle is sonically orchestrated and how the Suyna Qamani have and still practice these principles.

Ibelisse Guardia Ferragutti is a multi-medium artist, vocalist, performer and composer from Bolivian and Brazilian descent. She weaves her sonic and performative practices inspired by her latinx roots. Her practice involves a multidisciplinary approach which stems from her deep connection to ritual and trance as a form of threading worldviews carried by her ancestors. It is also a deliberate act of resistance to bond with knowledge that has been erased by means of colonization and oppression.

This event took place during the festival in September 2025.
