“Wie zijn de voorouders van Nederland? Wat zijn jullie tradities en rituelen?” Dat is de vraag die ik regelmatig krijg van inheemse elders en medicijnmensen van over de hele wereld. Lange tijd wist ik daar niet op te antwoorden. 400 jaar Romeinse overheersing en 2000 jaar Christendom heeft veel weggevaagd van de kennis van onze voorouders. Vooral het Christendom heeft er alles aan gedaan om alle sporen van ‘bijgeloof’ grondig uit te wissen en er iets anders voor in de plaats te zetten. Maar natuurlijk was dat er wel. Net zoals andere inheemse culturen hadden wij in Nederland ook onze Goden en Godinnen.
Dankzij de bijgelovige Romeinen zijn de namen van een aantal Nederlandse godinnen overgeleverd. Nehallenia Godin van de Zee, Mosa van de Maas, god Rhenus van de Rijn, godin Rura van de Roer, Vahalem van de Waal, Badhuhenna, Stavo van Stavoren Sandraudiga en vele anderen. Wie waren zij en wat hebben ze ons nu nog te vertellen?
Nicole E. Zonderhuis is ceremonieel leider, schrijver, verhalenverteller, prayer woman, eerhersteller en voorouderwerker.
Het is haar missie om verloren wijsheid terug in het bewustzijn te brengen. Wijsheid uit de tijd, meer dan drieduizend jaar geleden, toen de natuur werd gezien als de ware bron die alle levende wezens met elkaar verbond.
Geïnspireerd door inheemse culturen her-verbindt zij zichzelf en anderen met hun eigen wortels; de bloedlijnen, de aarde en de onzichtbare wereld van voorouders.

”Who are the ancestors of the Netherlands? What are your traditions and rituals?” That is the question I get regularly from native elders and medicine people from all over the world. For a long time I did not know how to answer that. 400 years of Roman rule and 2000 years of Christianity have wiped out much of the knowledge of our ancestors. Christianity in particular did everything it could to thoroughly erase all traces of “superstition” and put something else in its place. But of course there was. Like other indigenous cultures, we in the Netherlands also had our Gods and Goddesses.
Thanks to the superstitious Romans, the names of a number of Dutch goddesses have survived. Nehallenia Goddess of the Sea, Mosa of the Meuse, god Rhenus of the Rhine, goddess Rura of the Roer, Vahalem of the Waal, Badhuhenna, Stavo of Stavoren Sandraudiga and many others. Who were they and what do they have to tell us today?
