Ontdek een collectie van verhalen waarin vrouwen in planten veranderen. In deze performancelezing onderzoekt Zoë Sluijs de metamorfose van vrouwen die zichzelf planten en onderzoekt ze hoe de bodem benaderd kan worden als verhalenverteller.
Om de scheiding tussen mens en niet-mens te overstijgen, zouden we kunnen overwegen wat het betekent om plant te worden: samensmelten met, voortkomen uit, en ons enten tot een multispeciesentiteit. Deze speculatie ontvouwt zich door middel van storytelling en reflecteert tegelijkertijd op de transformatie van verhalen zelf. Hoe bewegen verhalen zich door de aarde? Hoe kunnen we ernaar luisteren?
Zoë Sluijs is een kunstenaar en docente met een diverse culturele en artistieke praktijk. Ze werkt aan alternatieve verhalen door middel van fotografie, tuinieren, luisteren, voedsel zoeken en schrijven. Daarnaast creëert ze platforms voor uitwisseling in de vorm van workshops, wandelingen en andere evenementen. Ze blijft verschillende perspectieven op de onderlinge relaties binnen de levende wereld onderzoeken. Ook stelt ze de grenzen van de definitie ervan ter discussie, bijvoorbeeld met betrekking tot bodem of gesteente.

In this performance lecture Zoë Sluijs explores the act of women planting themselves while investigating how soil might be approached as a storyteller. In order to move beyond the separation between human and nonhuman we might want to consider what it means to become plant: to merge with, to emerge from, to graft ourselves into a multispecies entity. This speculation unfolds through storytelling while simultaneously reflecting on storytelling’s own transformation. How do stories move through the soil? How might we listen to them?
While this research is ongoing, it aims to open a space for discussion and conversation in laying bare its gaps. With live soil sounds, archival images, and a multitude of stories, this session invites you to playfully fantasize along with the speculative exercise.
Zoë Sluijs is an artist and educator with a diverse cultural and artistic practice. Working towards alternative narratives by practicing storytelling through photography, gardening, listening, foraging, and writing. As well as creating platforms for exchange in the form of workshops, walks and other events. She continues investigating different perspectives to the interrelations within the living world. Also questioning the boundaries of its definition e.g. concerning soil or rocks.
