Amanda Piña

Danzas Climáticas is de naam van het vijfde deel van Endangered Human Movements, een langlopend onderzoek van kunstenaar Amanda Piña naar het verlies van culturele en biologische diversiteit op aarde. 

Zowel de film als de dansen behandelen de thema’s klimaatverandering en mijnexploitatie. Danzas Climáticas vertelt over het ‘lichaam’ van de berg dat door mijnbouw wordt ‘gedood’ en verdwijnt. Dit is ook het geval met de lichamen van mensen die zich uitspreken tegen de mijnbouwcorporatie. Er verdwijnen nog steeds mensen die actie voeren, die zich uitspreken. De mijnbouw is een monster die mens en natuur als objecten ziet. 

De film stelt het gangbare begrip van bergen als natuur of als natuurlijke hulpbron ter discussie en opent nieuwe/oude mogelijke relaties met berglichamen. Het is geïnspireerd op twee dansen van de inheemse Masewal-bevolking van de Puebla hooglanden in Mexico, het gebied waar de familie van de kunstenaar woont.

Danzas Climáticas is the name of the fifth part of Endangered Human Movements, a long-term investigation by artist Amanda Piña into the loss of cultural and biological diversity on earth.

Both film and dance revolve around the themes of climate change and mine exploitation. Danzas Climáticas describes the ‘body’ of the mountain that is ‘killed’ by mining and disappears. This is also the case with the bodies of people who speak out against the mining corporation. People who campaign, who speak out, are still going missing. Mining is a monster that sees mankind and nature as objects.

The film questions the common understanding of mountains as nature or a natural resource and opens up new/old potential relationships with mountainous areas. It is inspired by two dances of the indigenous Masewal people of the Puebla highlands in Mexico, the area where the artist’s family lives.
