Chimera Gastronomy

At the invitation of the IQECO, Noam Youngrak Son has developed the workshop Chimera Gastronomy: Malleable flesh, amalgamated bodies, and plastic kinship as part of the program for RE_NATURE. In the workshop, a group works individually and collectively on a large malleable body consisting of dough. During the kneading, identities, gender and notions surrounding ethics are discussed and reflected. The co-created edible sculpture is thus a translation of our collective and personal struggles, interspecies discoveries, and political feelings around bodies in this society. The result of the workshop will be added as a sculptural form to the RE_MEMBER exhibition at Willem Twee. According to Youngrak Son, this result will be a so-called ‘Chimera’: a living being that arises from cell mixing.

Op uitnodiging van Institute of Queer Ecology heeft Noam Youngrak Son de workshop Chimera Gastronomy: Malleable flesh, amalgamated bodies, and plastic kinship ontwikkeld als onderdeel van het programma op RE_NATURE. In de workshop werkt een groep individueel en gezamenlijk aan een groot kneedbaar lichaam bestaande uit o.a. brooddeeg. Tijdens het kneden wordt er gesproken en gereflecteerd over identiteiten en noties rondom ras, etniciteit en gender. De brood sculpturen vormen zo een vertaling van onze collectieve en persoonlijke worstelingen, ontdekkingen en politieke gevoelens rondom onze lichamen in deze maatschappij. Het resultaat van de workshop zal als sculpturale vorm worden toegevoegd aan de tentoonstelling RE_MEMBER in Willem Twee. Volgens Youngrak Son zal dit resultaat een zogeheten ‘Chimera’ zijn: een levend wezen dat ontstaat uit celmenging.
